Last night as I read the last few words in Breaking Dawn, the final book in the Twilight Series, I breathed out a sigh of relief. I had never wanted to read the books, and had successfully avoided them for close to 5 years, until I just got too curious.
In December I read the first book in about 3 days, and was really excited about reading the next three. I enjoyed how easy and entertaining the books were. I was very charmed by most of book two, but by the middle of book three I got a little…bored. I started to think that I would never finish the books and by that point all I wanted to know was how it all would end.
I can’t say that I didn’t enjoy the series at all, especially considering I read the final book, all 750 pages of it, in about 5 days. But I don’t think you’re missing much if you never read the Twilight Series. So i’ll say the series is different, entertaining, a very fun read…but loooooooooong!
So read if you must but, I bet you have already read them!

That is EXACTLY how I felt about them… I avoided them, was finally forced to read one and then it just became a matter of knowing how it ended.

I know exactly what you mean. Curiousity got the better of me. While I think they’re great stories with a fairly unique plot, the writing is awful. It’s a sad day when a movie does a better job of telling the story, but the movies are much better as Stephanie often has trouble with imagery and plot development / transition.
On the flip side, there are many many more writers with far less talent. Paoulini (sp? Eragon — yes I read it. Largely for the same reasons) is absolutely fantastic at dull, uncreative writing. Even his lastest, while better, is far below Twilight.
Unfortunately, the good ones are rare.

Stephen, I’m not sure I agree. I think that the writing was surprising good, its a just a cheesy plot about teenagers! :) But I know everyone likes different writing styles, I happen to think she’s doing a pretty good job (considering how quickly she’s pounding out 800 page novels!)
